Unknown Threat by Lynn H. Blackburn

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.

Unknown Threat is 300 pages of non-stop action! Right from the very first few pages, I was thrown into this fast-moving story and utterly captivated from start to end. If you love romantic suspense, you’ll want to check out this new series from Lynn H. Blackburn! (Keep reading for my full review!)

About Unknown Threat:

US Secret Service Special Agent Luke Powell is lucky to be alive. Three of his fellow agents have died in unusual circumstances in the past ten weeks. Luke is devastated by the loss of his friends and colleagues, and his inability to locate the killer feels like a personal failure. He and his team are experts at shielding others, but now the protectors are in need of protection.

FBI Special Agent Faith Malone is driven to succeed and confident in her ability to solve every case she’s assigned. She’s been put in charge of the investigation into the unprecedented attacks, and with Luke’s life in danger, the stakes have never been higher. But it’s hard to know how to fight back when you don’t know who the enemy is.

Luke has teamed up with Faith before, but he’s not convinced she’s up for the job and she’s not convinced he’s telling her everything he knows. As more agents are targeted, Luke and Faith will have to learn to trust each other and work together to bring a killer to justice and prevent any more names from joining their fallen brothers and sisters on the Secret Service Wall of Honor.

Reader’s Thoughts

Unknown Threat is an exciting and entertaining read! With its fast-moving plot and action galore it easily earned 4.5 stars from me.

Truthfully, I often find the romantic suspense genre to be heavily weighted towards romance. They can be overly cheesy and a little unrealistic. For that reason, they’re not usually one of my go-to genres. BUT one of the reasons I loved Unknown Threat so much was that it found just the right balance between action and attraction!

The main characters, Luke and Faith, had instant chemistry that built throughout the book. But when it comes to romance, I also appreciated that they had a bit of backstory that was briefly mentioned — the characters had known each other and worked on projects together in the past. This gave credibility to the fast-paced nature of the relationship.

I also deeply connected with Faith’s character… over her love of Cherry Coke!

The book had me giggling out loud at quotes like, “Ugh. Water was so… boring” and “Faith rated her days by the number of Cherry Cokes she had consumed. Normal days? One. Busy days, or days when she was out late the night before? Two. Days of utter madness called for three.

I completely relate with that level of love for colas! That being said, Cherry Coke was specifically mentioned A LOT. If you took a swig of Cherry Coke every time Faith had one, you’d probably go through a whole case just reading the book. As a running joke, it was amusing but probably would have been just as effective dialed back a little.

As Christian fiction, there were several light, faith-related conversations woven throughout the story and faith-based themes. While the story was full of action, it was completely clean and non-gory, and I’d consider it appropriate for mid-teen readers too.

This is one author that I will definitely read more of! This is the first story in the series and I will definitely be keeping my eye out for future books. If you enjoy suspenseful and clean reads, I highly recommend Unknown Threat. Grab a copy for yourself, you can do so on Amazon, here!
